NCF and CSED Initiative take cricket to refugees camp

The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) in partnership with CSED Initiative recently held a three day introducation to cricket training for some Cameroonian refugees that are based in three camps in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State (Nigeria).
The training event which was facilitated by ex-green and yellow player, Blessing Etim, was held in commemoration of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), led to the training of 80 male and female cricketers and ten officials. These new players and volunteer officials were playing cricket for the very first time. The playing kits and equipment that were donated by Lord's Taverners (UK Sport charity) were used and later handed over to the residents of the three camps.
The purpose of organising the event is to provide the residents with the opportunity of learning a new sport, socialising with each other, using sports to promote the emotional and mental health of the residents, as well as to promote their overall health. CSED Initiative hopes to work closely with the residents, other relevant stakeholders, sporting federations and humanitarian organisations in order to provide more access to the residents to take part in pro-social and soft skills developing activities in future.
