Despite the growing recognition of sports as a tool for development, funding challenges persist. A significant gap remains between funders and the NGOs implementing these programs, with limited clarity on the underlying reasons. What drives funding decisions? How do funders define success? Where do priorities align—or misalign—with the realities on the ground? Understanding these dynamics is crucial for improving implementation strategies, goal-setting, and long-term sustainability.

Survey Objectives

This survey aims to collect perspectives from professionals involved in Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) funding, including those from private organizations, government agencies, NGOs, and international institutions. The findings will be used to:

  • Identify key criteria and priorities shaping SDP funding decisions.
  • Highlight the most pressing challenges facing SDP initiatives.
  • Explore best practices for securing sustainable, long-term funding.
  • Assess emerging trends in the field and their impact on future investments.

Who Should Participate?

Funders, policymakers, program managers, and SDP practitioners are encouraged to participate. Whether directly involved in funding decisions or navigating the grant application process, participants’ insights will contribute to a collective understanding of how to improve SDP funding structures.

Survey Details

  • Estimated time: 5-7 minutes
  • Format: Mix of multiple-choice and open-ended questions
  • Responses are anonymous unless participants opt for a follow-up interview

Next Steps

Upon completion, survey findings will be compiled into a research report exploring key themes in SDP funding. This research aims to provide deeper insight into the funding process from the top down, highlighting what matters most to funders and how these considerations impact program effectiveness. While this survey is not expected to resolve all challenges within the funding landscape, it aims to foster dialogue on aligning resources with program needs.

Insights from this survey will contribute to shaping a more effective and sustainable funding framework for SDP initiatives. Thank you to all participants for their time and valuable contributions.
