PS4L's holistic approach combines education, sport, and psychosocial support

In Deir al Balah, Gaza, amid war-ravaged streets and displaced families, 31-year-old father and PS4L coach Suhaib Salah Salman Abu Nadi transformed his own adversity into a powerful story of community-led healing and education.
When conflict destroyed his home, Suhaib and his family took refuge in a tent camp, facing limited resources and uncertainty. Yet, amid those harsh conditions, he saw an opportunity, Armed with a simple chalkboard and PS4L’s mission. He created a tent-based classroom, delivering play-based learning sessions to children dealing with trauma.
Teaming up with shelter coordinator Umm Maysarah, Suhaib launched interactive lessons that captured young hearts within 24 hours. Children from nearby areas flocked daily to participate—not just in academics, but in laughter, games, and community building. He earned the honorific “teacher” and quickly became a trusted mentor and friend.
What began as a single session has since grown into the largest temporary learning space in the region. With local volunteers and educators stepping in, students now receive instruction in Arabic, mathematics, and enjoy a weekly English class. Through PS4L’s holistic strategy—which blends education, sport, and psychosocial support—the tent classroom has reached over 1,000 children
The classroom has evolved into a symbol of community resilience. Parents and neighbors rallied to provide supplies, time, and encouragement, creating a nurturing ecosystem where displaced families and local educators unite to lift Gaza’s next generation.
More than academic lessons, Suhaib’s classroom offers emotional restoration through play and solidarity. It affirms children’s right to education and recovery, even amid conflict. As part of PS4L’s broader psychosocial mission, his tent has become both a school and a sanctuary.
