Reading: Economics of sport in Africa
With a global growth rate of nearly 5% per year for 20 years, the sports economy in Africa is flourishing. The continent contributes to this global expansion thanks to its many talents: Weah, Mutombo, Drogba, El Guerrouj, Gebrselassie, Semenya, Player, Ngannou, Adesanya, Zango, Mutola, Ta Lou, Kipchoge, Jabeur, Abdelaziz, Embiid, Eto'o , among many others. However, the economic benefits for Africans do not match the continent's enormous potential.
What are the characteristics of the sports sector in Africa? How can political and economic leaders use this sector to respond to the continent's demographic, socio-economic and environmental challenges? What “African” business models should we institute to develop the ecosystem and make it a true vector of inclusive and sustainable growth?
Prefaced by Makhtar Diop (SFI) and Rémy Rioux (AFD), this new work called on the most eminent specialists in sport and economics in Africa, notably Fatma Samoura (FIFA), Tidjane Thiam (IOC), Vera Songwe ( UNECA), Abdou Diop (Mazars), the legend Didier Drogba, the economists Andreff, Akindes, Ze Belinga, whose contributions offer pragmatic and innovative analyzes and solutions.
