REMS members from 24 cities will participate in the virtual event Esporte em Casa (Sport at Home) and reinforce the importance of carrying out physical and sports activities - at a distance - for physical and mental health

This IDSDP, to encourage people to stay home and stay active, REMS - Rede Esporte pela Mudança Social (SSCN – Sport for Social Change Network), a partner of Nike and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), will promote their virtual “Sport at home” events. This is a call on the people of Brazil and indeed the whole world, to participate in physical activities and sports while staying that home. The events are a collaborative effort of many recognized institutes and NGOs across Brazil.

The virtual events, free of charge and open to the public, will be published on REMS and its members' social media (Facebook and Instagram). In the week of April 6 (from April 5 to April 9) and also in the following week (from April 12 to 15), a series of videos made by 46 REMS members will be published, with different activities and modalities, aimed at different age groups.

The idea is for the public to check the calendar with the description of each activity and choose when and how they want to exercise, following the videos. The videos will be uploaded after the events for people to access and exercise along with at other times.

“We are going through a very difficult time in Brazil and in the world because of the coronavirus pandemic. With this event, organizations offer what they do better - quality physical and sports activities - to nourish the body and soul and help fight another silent pandemic that has been taking the lives of thousands of people: the pandemic of physical inactivity," explains William Boudakian, executive director of the Instituto Família Barrichello.

"People's mental health is very shaken by this whole situation of fear and uncertainty. With that, we are doing activities such that people exercise at home, have fun and realize the power that sport has, beyond physical health,” comments Ana Luiza de Araujo Carrança, REMS coordinator.

REMS is offering more than 40 free virtual physical activity sessions in the coming days. Check out the schedule (attached) and join in!

About REMS

The Sport for Social Change Network – SSCN in Brazil (REMS – Rede Esporte pela Mudança Social) today brings together 161 institutions that work with sport as a factor of human development and, together, reached more than 250 thousand people with sports in 2019 in Brazil. It was founded simultaneously in Brazil and South Africa in 2007, by a group of civil society associations supported by Nike and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). This initiative inspired the creation of similar networks in the United Kingdom and Argentina. REMS brings visibility to the work of associations, demonstrating the social impact and transformative power of sport, which inspires people, institutions and governments to promote health, human development, ethics and citizenship.
