Sport and SDGs case study: ITTF Foundation
How does your organisation work toward achieving the SDGs?
The ITTF Foundation uses table tennis for purposes of solidarity. The non-profit organisation realises, but notably invites others and supports sample projects globally, promoting best cases. Sport is used as a means to gather people using the game for positive and long lasting social outcomes, such as health, gender equality, inclusiveness, peaceful behaviour and equality of opportunities for all. We don’t focus only the masses, but particularly different target groups, including minorities and disadvantaged persons.
Which specific goals do you target?
- Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages through table tennis
- Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
- Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
- Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries
- Goal 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies
- Goal 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development
What changes have you made to your work since the SDGs were introduced in January 2016?
The International Table Tennis Federation established the non-profit ITTF Foundation as its social responsibility arm. Each year, a different SDG is targeted to be promoted through its communication channels and ambassadors.
How is your organisation measuring progress?
Each project implemented by or through the ITTF Foundation submits regular reports about the progress containing clear and measurable data. All the data are evaluated once a year on a global level.
