World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam today praised the United Nations (UN) for its work in uniting the world around water-focused action as part of World Water Day 2023.

While establishing an ambitious Water Action Agenda and accelerating change to solve the world’s water and sanitation crisis, the UN is bringing together governments, business leaders, young people, scientists and a range of diverse stakeholders for the UN 2023 Water Conference in New York, from 22-24 March 2023.

“Water is one of the world’s greatest assets and is vital for health, life and sport. I know I speak on behalf of aquatics athletes everywhere when I express our gratitude to the UN for its continued focus on water,” said World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam. “The history of competitive aquatic sports is closely tied to the importance of water for public health. The first swimming pools in most of the world’s cities were located alongside public baths. This is still the case in many leading cities, including Paris, host of the next Olympic Games. I would like to applaud the UN for its efforts to bring together a vast community of stakeholders for the first time in almost 50 years to help solve the world’s water issues.”

“We look forward to following the outcomes and water-related commitments in order for World Aquatics and our Members to help raise awareness of these important issues and for us to be part of potential solutions.”
