Your chance to promote sport as a priority for a better world
Through the online survey available at myworld2015.org the project requires individuals to pick six of the sixteen possible issues that according to them should play major roles in the progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the final stretch before 2015, as well in the post-2015 development agenda that is being discussed at the United Nations.
In a video message for the survey, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon encouraged the public to participate. “Vote and tell us what issues matter most to you and your family. Make a difference. Mark a difference,” he said. In addition to the possibility of choosing suggested issues anyone can enter their own priority they think deserves to be on the agenda.
An opportunity to spread and raise awareness
While sport is no direct panacea for eradication of poverty, hunger, child mortality or disease it has been proven to be an effective and powerful contributor towards the achievement of the MDGs. In doing so, sport and recreation related opportunities, community programmes, indoor and outdoor facilities must be open for everybody regardless of their gender, nationality, race, religion, age, ability, or sexual orientation.
My World 2015 is another opportunity to spread and raise awareness of the positive impacts that sport and recreation can achieve. It is a chance to motivate policy and decision makers, as well as practitioners into harnessing sport’s ability to be an effective development tool for positive social change and promoter of peace.
A new development framework
Results will firstly be submitted to the Secretary General´s High Level Panel for Post-2015 and will feed into their final report and recommendations for a new development framework in May 2013. After which, MY World will continue gathering people’s voices up to 2015 and results will be shared with the Secretary General and global leaders as they prepare the next development agenda in the run up to 2015.
Please feel free to proceed to the survey at myworld2015.org and choose the issues of paramount importance to you. Any sport-related priority or idea can be entered by clicking on the link “+ Suggest a priority” at the end of the list of issues.
