fairplay, the initiative for diversity and antidiscrimination was established by the Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation (VIDC) in 1997. The fairplay initiative has worked closely with key football and sport stakeholders such as associations, clubs, fans, players as well as migrant and refugee organisations in order to address exclusion and promote equality and respect in the game. fairplay is a founding member of the network Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE), which has established in 1999 in Vienna, Austria. We work closely with key (football) institutions including UEFA, FIFA, European Commission, Council of Europe, FIFPro and many national bodies in Austria.
Recent Erasmus+ sport projects, which fairplay-VIDC coordinates, include "Queering Football" (2016-2017), "Sport Welcomes Refugees" (2017-2018) and "Sport Inclusion of Migrant and Minority Women“ (#SPINWomen). Another focus is on projects in the field of human rights and mega-sport events ("Our Game for Human Rights") and sport for development.
The project "Football Zajedno" promotes equality and non-discrimination among young people in the Western Balkans and is carried out in partnership with the football associations of Bosnia -Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia and is supported by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and UEFA.
