The cover page of an issue brief with the title Active Campuses
The issue brief by the Sports and Society Accelerator explores interventions to promote healthy higher education institutions in India.

There is a growing awareness and advocacy for the inclusion of more structured sport and physical activity (SAPA) approaches within higher education institutions (HEIs) in India. This movement is driven by concerns over student health and well-being, especially considering the increasing stress and lifestyle-related health issues among students.

Early initiatives by the government and various accreditation bodies encourage SAPA, recognizing its benefits for student development, health, and its role as an engine of India’s future socio-economic growth. Nonetheless, making SAPA a core component of the higher education experience in India would require policy changes and investment across several areas, including infrastructure, curriculum changes, and capacity building.
