SESLA is an initiative in response to the fact that one in four young people in Africa is not in formal education, employment, or training.
Sport for Education and Sustainable Livelihoods (SESLA) was launched in 2024 by Laureus Sport for Good, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and Agence Française de Développement (AFD), with the support of key African sport and social development institutions. It leverages sport to empower young people in Africa to create more sustainable futures for themselves and their communities.
Participatory Video and Most Significant Change methodology was applied in eight SESLA-funded organisations to evaluate the programme’s impact:
- Deaf Outreach (Kenya)
- Génération Sports X-trèmes (Tunisia)
- I Am Water (South Africa)
- Malaika (Democratic Republic of Congo)
- MindLeaps (Rwanda)
- Organisation pour le Développement Durable et la Biodiversité (Bénin)
- Tackle (Uganda)
- United Africa (Morocco)
Facilitated by SESLA delivery partner InsightShare, this approach allowed participants to take control of their narratives and share how sport has transformed their lives. Through this method, their lived experiences were captured in ways that traditional surveys and questionnaires often cannot.
