One in every three women experiences some form of physical or sexual violence in her lifetime. Such violence is rooted in gender inequality, discrimination and harmful cultural and social norms that emphasise men’s superiority over women, normalise violence toward women and allow perpetrators to act with impunity.
To address violence against women and girls in sport, UN Women, UNESCO and the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative have developed a Handbook to create a shared understanding of the problem, offer practical tools for addressing violence against women and girls in sport
and propose areas for effective collaboration.
The handbook lists down key recommendations for sports practitioners, policy makers, sports journalists and civil societies.
