Former Karate athlete and coach, Emiliano has always cultivated his passion for physical activity and sport, also exploring some of the various related fields. In 2010, he won the "Alberto Madella" Research Award, a national Award in memory of Professor Alberto Madella organised by the School of Sport of the Italian NOC (CONI – Scuola dello Sport). After his studies at the University of Rome, he had a working experience at the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE), where he assisted the preparation of ICSSPE's events and publications. Till 2013, he worked at University of Rome “Foro Italico” as a lecturer in individual sports - combat sports. Before moving to Australia for his PhD, Emiliano had a position as a special education teacher in a secondary school in Rome and he acted as the coordinator of a European Project, led by the European Agency on Special Education Needs, focusing on the inclusion of students with disabilities.
To apply his expertise in development and social inclusion of children with special needs through play and sport education, he cooperated on several projects organised by the most important Italian Sport-for-All organisation (UISP). To extend this expertise to cross-cultural contexts, in January 2015, he conducted a training of local educators in Gaza Strip, Palestine (project “IDEAS: Female Entrepreneurship & Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, Empowerment & Education”, promoted by EducAid NGO and Peace Games NGO).
