My journey as a changemaker is inspired by a deep belief in the power of youth, culture, and creativity to drive sustainable development. As the founder of Green Interventions for Sustainable Towns – Kenya (GIST Kenya), I lead innovative community-based projects that create waves of change by merging climate action with social justice—especially in underserved areas where systems often overlook the voices of young people.
One of the most powerful tools we've embraced is basketball, not just as a sport, but as a mobilizer for awareness and advocacy. Through our Climate Action Through Basketball initiative, we create safe, energetic spaces where young people engage in open conversations about climate justice, mental health, and sexual and reproductive health. These tournaments are more than just games—they are platforms for leadership, intergenerational dialogue, and environmental consciousness. We use the court as a classroom, the ball as a conversation starter, and the game as a movement toward resilience and empowerment.
This unique blend of sport and advocacy is part of our broader effort to localize the Sustainable Development Goals. Whether it’s through storytelling, indigenous knowledge sharing, or community clean-up events linked to basketball tournaments, GIST Kenya is working to turn awareness into action—one game, one community, and one youth at a time.
As a Climate Catalysts mentee and a project officer engaged in advancing self-care in reproductive health, I am continuously learning, connecting, and scaling impact. I believe that by riding these waves of change—rooted in empathy, innovation, and local ownership—we can reshape our future to be greener, fairer, and more inclusive.
