Since 2009, Sacred Sports Foundation (SSF) has grown consistently. The number of programmes, the type of programmes, the scale and range of our programmes have expanded to incorporate more structured, fun and inclusive physical activity, combined with youth training opportunities and public education initiatives.
SSF continues to support learning for our beneficiaries in friendly, safe spaces in many of our more challenging & violent communities, from pioneering gender awareness projects, UK certified youth mentorship training schemes, to innovative ability over disability play initiatives.
We are proud to say that at the heart of every development has been a wonderfully committed team of talented youth working directly in their own communities. These inspiring young men and women run and power tremendous creativity and are dedicated in helping transform and develop the communities disadvantaged children they assist that are the lifeblood of the Eastern Caribbean.
I have always been able to rise to the challenge, working alongside our local stakeholders and equally committed International partners such as FIFA Foundation, USAID, Maria Holder Memorial Trust, and the UEFA Foundation for Children. Year 2020 saw SSF faced with new and unprecedented challenges in the guise of the COVID-19 pandemic, which we would not have been able to weather successfully without their tremendous support and assistance.
Our extended family was hit hardest, namely those amazing children found in the most disadvantaged communities, removing the ability for them to do face to face schooling and play, literally cutting vital food, travel and learning support systems where they are most needed.
I highlight the tremendous transformation undertaken by SSF in 2020 with immense pride as we seek to grapple with health concerns, social distancing, new hygiene standards and remote learning. Amid the turmoil, SSF is reinventing its delivery models and expanding into offering innovative new food, nutrition, and health support programmes in response to the demands of our children.
SSF has taken bold, targeted strategic decisions, upgrading systems and child safeguarding standards to incorporate the challenges posed by online learning and committed to a new 3Goals programme, leading to a One Child, One Tablet and One Ball policy that promises to positively revolutionise the experiences our children have when engaged in our programmes.
We collectively continue striving to meet the ever-increasing expectations of our children, driven by a determined team of peer-to-peer youth leaders eager to develop new frontiers, supported by local, regional, and international partners that go above and beyond to help us provide exceptional programmes.
